Hunger Awareness Program OR Food Awareness Program?

National Ambassador KC Concepcion helps raise awareness on the fight against hunger

http://www.pep.ph/news/17679/National-Ambassador-KC-Concepcion-helps-raise-awareness-on-the-fight-against-hunger/2

if we really want to help people, we should start by being positive and spreading positive thoughts and feelings to those in need of help and inspiration.

if i may point out...

"Young actress KC Concepcion raises HUNGER-awareness program... "

"Here are some of the HUNGER facts shared by the organization:
1. Every five seconds a child dies because she or he is HUNGRY
2. 10.9 million children fewer than five die in developing countries each year. MALNUTRITION and HUNGER-related diseases cause 60 percent of the deaths
3. 524 million of the world's HUNGRY live in South Asia - more than the populations of Australia and USA
4. The number of chronically HUNGRY people worldwide is growing by an average of four million per year ac current trends
5. A HUNGRY child can receive a school meal for only 10US cents per day or 5 pesos"

all these talks of hunger will only create more hunger. if these hunger issues continue to dominate people's minds, then this hunger will also continue to dominate people's lives. If you spend your energy on hunger awareness programs, all you are doing is feeding the negative energy.

you are what you think, you are what you talk about. if you really want to stop hunger, then best to talk about FOOD nutrition and health, best to talk about the proper EATING diet, best to educate people about HEALTHY EATING lifestyle, best to get people involved in FOOD campaigns, best to create FOOD GIVING, FOOD SHARING and FOOD DISTRIBUTION programs. just keep it in the positive and you will reap positive results.

it may seem simple or unimportant even, but following and practicing it will make a big difference. we must not underestimate the power of our words. our words are the outcome of our thoughts, and our thoughts have the power to bring the universe into play as validated by the Law of Attraction.

KC is commendable for giving so much attention to important matters such as the welfare of kids in the Philippines. the World Food Program of the United Nations has the best intentions. it would be so much better if they change her title from National Ambassador Against Hunger to National Ambassador for Food and Nutrition.

"I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." - Mother Teresa

LOBO Builds up in Intensity

TV Ratings (May 27-29): "My Girl" fails to topple "Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita"

i have to say i'm quite impressed with how lobo's story is turning out. i used to watch it simultaneously with dyesebel, but the latter failed to hook me because of its so-so special effects.

i want to commend the acting of pilar pilapil, angel locsin, and piolo pascual. i especially admired angel locsin as she delivered her lines, if i do remember it correctly, "ako si lyka reymundo. anak ng itim na lobo. apo ng pinakamalakas na waya. at ako ang huling bantay.", with such intensity that the people who would watch it would suddenly find themselves on the edge of their seats.

i used to not like piolo's acting in his previous tv series, thinking it was much too overbearing in dramatic scenes, a tad bit overboard in facial expressions than what the story situation really calls for.

for the first time, i have come to appreciate his acting. his skills have been developed far more greater than before. his facial expressions with just the right touch of emotions, his anger showing the height and intensity of a real person if put in that same real situation. his eyes showing the enormous battle lurking in his soul of being torn between love and family.

nothing compares to that particular moment when he found out that the person he loves most deeply is of the same race as the enemies he most despise. you can very much see the shock, denial, confusion, betrayal, hurt and anger clouding inside of him, emitting through his face. they say a picture is worth a thousand words and his was a face that painted a thousand words of emotions.

kudos to the production team, writers, and directors of lobo for bringing out the very best among your actors.

To Fight or Not to Fight (Part II)

Co-workers defend Marian Rivera's 'pagtataray' on set of "Dyesebel"

hopefully, marian will learn how to discern and choose her battles. not all things are worth fighting over, especially not when your image and reputation as an actress is at stake.

know when to fight and know when to let others take over and handle it for you. being an actress, you have people around you, be it handlers, personal assistants, managers, directors, production crew, security staff, etc. who are more equipped to control bystanders, fans, and onlookers. you don't have to, and should not have taken on some passing stranger and call upon them for whatever reason, even if they're in the wrong. this is isn't high on your concern list and doing so will just put you in a negative spot.

sure, everybody has rights even the celebrities. but in this particular case, i don't think that simply ignoring the man and not sinking down to his level will make you less of a woman or person. on the contrary, if you had just brushed off his irksome retorts and called upon your people to deal with him, you would have shown better judgment and people will appreciate you much better for it.

he may have been sarcastic, rude and blatant even, but what matters most here is how other people, especially your viewers, will see you. they would not care about the actions or reactions of that man, the viewers don't know him. but they know you, they watch you, they watch out for your shows, and your personality accounts for something big in terms of getting viewer support.

fans love their celebrity idols not only for their acting abilities and capabilities in front of the cameras, but also for their character, traits and personality behind these same cameras.

To Fight or Not to Fight

FIRST READ ON PEP: Marian Rivera airs her side about YouTube video

stopping yourself from sinking to another person's level is not being "plastic", it's called being educated, well enough to know that proper breeding requires great control of oneself in provoking situations, with or without a video camera to capture your reactions.

restraining yourself from answering back to a person's irksome banter shows maturity and possession of respectable manners.

celebrities in particular, because they have a harder time being constantly scrutinized by the public eye, do have it more difficult than the average person, but this is not reason enough to go ahead and counter attack malicious verbal strikes. one should exercise greater control knowing fully that one has entered a world full of criticisms, negativity, malice and defamation.

being famous, and a public property to an extent, has its advantages and disadvantages. better for you to work out how to go about stressful and agitating situations while early, so that you may focus your attention on more important matters like improving your craft.

actions speak louder than words and one would not want to magnify negativity through loss of self-restraint.

Sarah Geronimo's Continuing Journey

John Lloyd-Bea fans threaten to boycott Sarah-John Lloyd movie

i've watched the john lloyd - sarah mmk episode and it was very nice and entertaining, to say the least. they had a good chemistry together and when mmk aired it for a rerun, i even watched it again.

it's quite enjoyable to watch sarah do acting simply because she comes off as a natural. her acting is simple, real and definitely not overboard.

i see sarah as a very talented girl who's not afraid of venturing into new styles or media in terms of entertainment.

just when people have been branding or associating her as a singer who does only one type of music, mostly pop, she comes out with the other side of sarah, who proves that she can also do other genres of music like hip-hop, r&b, jazz, etc. plus, and a big one at that, she can dance to the tune too.

even for that alone, you have to give her credit and respect, because not all singers can do that. the guillermo mendoza memorial scholarship foundation definitely agrees, and seals that opinion with a best female performer award for sarah geronimo.

the male counterpart for that award being given to the concert king says a little something as well.

from her singing, she has branched out to dancing, hosting, acting and endorsing numerous products. she is really blessed because she has managed to stay grounded through it all.

one may notice that among big stars, she's one of the few who have been given the least negative feedback regarding a change in attitude and the like, and this is because of her humility even if she's continually bathing in the lime light.

The Problem of Manhood

here's an excerpt from bo sanchez' website http://bosanchez.ph/take-charge/ that i find hilarious, hits right on the mark, and especially true for the majority of the married population.

First Favorite Thing To Blame:
Another Person

Adam and Eve represent all the Unsuccessful People in the world. Because they were Expert Blamers.
When God asked, “Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” Adam said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

In other words, the woman is to blame!

And if you study history, men have always blamed women for everything that has gone wrong in the world. (I think the scientific word for this phenomenon is Jerkhood.)
What’s the truth?
Many of the problems of this world are really a problem of manhood.

Larry Crabb says the same thing. He says the world is in a catastrophic mess right now because of one sin: The silence of Adam. (That’s the title of his intriguing book.) He says Adam didn’t protect his wife Eve. Instead, Adam remained silent. He should have said, “Sweetheart, what are you doing talking to that slimy Mr. Snake? I’m your husband and I will not just stand here while he’s lies to you and robs you. I will protect you. Stand back while I whack that creature on its head.”

Men have not taken responsibility for the spiritual life of their families.
Men have not been aggressive enough to care for their wives, their children, and their communities.

What do men do? They earn the money and do nothing else. Thinking that’s all there is to being a man, they live their own little selfish life with a beer bottle in one hand and a TV remote on the other

Wives vs Husbands

i received this in an e-mail once. as i was sorting out my mail the other day, i stumbled upon it and it made me laugh uncontrollably yet again.

WIFE VS. HUSBAND
A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word.An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, "Relatives of yours?""Yep," the wife replied, "in-laws."

WORDS
A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day... 30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife replied, "The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men...The husband then turned to his wife and asked, "What?"

CREATION
A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time. "The wife responded, "Allow me to explain. God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!

WHO DOES WHAT
A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee."The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee." Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee." Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me." So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says.......... "HEBREWS"

THE SILENT TREATMENT
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morningbusiness flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM"He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up,only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up." Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

The impact of special effects in TV productions

FIRST READ ON PEP: Anne Curtis fulfills childhood dream by playing mermaid in "Dyosa"
Jocelyn Dimaculangan

http://www.pep.ph/news/17390/FIRST-READ-ON-PEP:-Anne-Curtis-fulfills-childhood-dream-by-playing-mermaid-in-Dyosa

wow...grabe ang reactions...inabot ng libo libo... be thankful anne that you are making waves not only at sea, but here in pep as well...

i, for one, like your acting. you have the capacity to show depth of emotion without unnecessary face contortions. you have learned well to let the atmosphere of the scene surface through your eyes. you can very well act without the need for words.

an actor among the young generation who has a similar acting ability is john lloyd cruz. they both proved this in the two books of maging sino ka man.

i've watched marimar as well, and although marian posseses an element of charm, i think she should do better to improve on her pronunciation, i.e. "you may live!" [---> you may leave!] a line during a board room scene with marvin agustin, if i remember correctly.

now, i watch dyesebel and lobo at the same time. i'm quite disappointed with dyesebel's computer animation, especially if you are also watching lobo which has very commendable special effects. the cartoon-like underwater scenes do not sit well with the expectations of a great production.

if you watch lobo, there is a seamless transition from the wolf to the human form and vice versa. even the eyes which change in color are done effectively.

i hope the dyesebel production team do improve on that because it's easier to be engrossed in a fantasy series that has great visual effects.

as for the fantaserye dyosa, hopefully they do as well, if not better, as lobo in terms of special effects at least, because that really plays an important role when doing fantasies, be it in movies or television.

Tagal naman ng Dyosa. Ayoko na kasi ng lumalangoy gamit tuhod...

it really is disappointing to watch dyesebel's underwater scenes. another case in point, when marian was swimming towards the lair of the sea witch who can grant her wish to have legs, they focused too much on marian and just zoomed in on the backdrop to make it look like she was swimming towards the camera, but they tried in vain. it was so obvious that she was just atop a moving contraption wherein she couldn't even sway her body to make it seem that she was at least in motion, if the swimming movement is impossible to do.

much worse, when a large rock is shown to be rolling towards marian and the jellyfish, the camera portrayed marian as if she were flying like darna instead of swimming like dyesebel. why did they have to be stagnant and leave the effects to the camera which clearly did not do the job at all? they could have wiggled their body a bit to at least show some swimming motion. it was like watching a low budgeted film and was certainly very disappointing.

i quite like marian in marimar although she mispronounces some words. but you may still forgive her for it, even for the reason that her character in the story is that of a no-read-no-write vulnerable and naive girl. but a second thought forces one to rationalize that her very character too, was sent to the states in order to study and thus was supposed to have learned how to speak fluent english.

language fluency aside, i still think she fits her role as marimar, in terms of character and personality portrayal. and that is why, seeing her now in dyesebel, i can't help but wonder, where is that charming girl?

her portrayal of the character dyesebel seems to border on being ostentatious. i really do hope she manages to trim it down a bit. maybe when she gets her legs and can then act normally on dry land, she can now more focus in giving her role a more fitting depiction.

i'm really looking forward to watching dingdong and marian together in the scenes and i do hope that they have maintained, if not intensified, their chemistry.

Angel Locsin and her improvement as an actress

i think that filipino fans today really give meaning to the term fanatics. as seen in the philippine entertainment portal, fans really give their all out views, comments, opinions and violent reactions about stars they love and stars they hate.

this is a comment i made about an article in pep:

Angel Locsin meets the man who composed a song about her
Rommel Placente
Tuesday, April 29, 200802:28 PM

http://www.pep.ph/news/17313/Angel-Locsin-meets-the-man-who-composed-a-song-about-her

i don't really know why some people are so intent in pulling some stars down. if they have nothing good to say, nobody's forcing them to put a comment in here. they are free to just read and move on to the next articles. why spend time and effort on bashing people you don't like?

this almost borders on hypocrisy in that as much as you say that you hate this particular star, you so much show that you are willing to spend a portion of your day to say something about them, be it negative as such.

there's nothing wrong with giving or stating criticisms but some here are just plain degrading.

i used to not like angel, because personally i felt that her previous acting jobs in gma shows do not show the same depth that veteran actresses with her same height of fame possess.

i did not agree with her decision to leave her home network either but i don't see those as reasons to write negatively about her.

and now, looking and observing her acting in abs-cbn's lobo, i think she did the right thing after all.

if you really think about, if you can stop and see beyond the ratings game or network war, it really is not about quantity as represented by numbers in ratings, but rather, in quality as expressed by people who see through publicity and look deeper into the passion and depth you put into your acting craft.

angel has shown tremendous and incredible improvement in her acting, transforming from the "pasweetums" stage to the mature actress she has now become.

and frankly, from the bunch of young actors and actresses in the whole of showbusiness, abs-cbn seems to be the one who brings to surface these types of award-deserving qualities from its stars.
